A BIRTH DOULA Is someone who is trained as a Professional Labor Support Person and is knowledgeable about the physical and emotional aspects of labor and birth. Your Doula works with you before, during and after your birth. *Before your birth, your Doula will meet with you to gather information on how she may best work with you and your partner during labor. Your Doula will also discuss your preferences for pain management, as well as how you and your partner foresee working together during labor. Your Doula may also help you get information so you can make informed choices regarding your birth, and to become familiar with your birth plan. *During labor, your Doula works with you, your partner and / or family, and the medical staff by making suggestions for positions, words of encouragement, massage, visualization, breathing, aroma therapy, uses of a birth ball**, and other comfort measures to help you during labor and birth. Your doula stays with you throughout the entire process from the beginning until the family is resting and bonding after delivery. *After your birth, your Doula will be available for questions and referrals should the need arise, for any postpartum issues, such as breastfeeding etc. Within two weeks after you birth, to review your birth, and admire your baby. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ** A birth ball is a large physical therapy ball used by Doulas to assist a woman in labor in a variety of ways, such as sitting on the ball and gently, bouncing, rocking or leaning. It can be used in or out of the shower, (with the consent of your provider and / or birth center / hospital).
A POSTPARTUM DOULA Is someone who is experienced with newborns and new families. She comes to your home after your baby is born and helps to nurture you. A Postpartum Doula will help with pratical things such as light housekeeping, baby laundry, light meal prep, sibling care, information on cord care, diapering, bathing your newborn, breastfeeding assistance, and other information and education on new families and newborn care. Just as the Birth Doula offers emotional support during labor and birth, the Pospartum Doula is a source of emotional support during the early days of welcoming the new baby home. In addition the Postpartum Doula, referrals can be made as needed to other services in your community for additional support.
DADS AND DOULAS This is your birth experience too! Dads are a crutial part of pregnancy, birth and parenting. A role which DoulaWorks respects and nurtures during pregnancy, labor, birth and beyond to offer support to the family through the entire process. Doulas do not replace anyone in the birthing or postpartum process. A Doula enhances the expierence by offering information for the whole family.
